特斯拉的财报会,也是马斯克的故事会。
特斯拉 2024 年第三季度的财报会在凌晨举行,马斯克依旧用那听起来磕磕巴巴、若有所思的表达,构建了他以及特斯拉今后的「宏伟蓝图」。
总得来说,特斯拉的 Q3 战绩不错,起码在纸面数据上,能给投资人和股东一个交代:
第三财季营收 251.8 亿美元,同比增长 8%;
汽车总收入 200.16 亿美元,同比增长 2%;
净收入(GAAP)为 21.67 亿美元,同比增长 17%;
电动车总交付量 462890 辆,同比增长 6%。
而且,在多项数据上,特斯拉很争气地高于预期,再一次用数据打脸了那些不看好甚至唱衰特斯拉的分析师:第三财季毛利率 19.8%,分析师预期 16.8%; 第三财季经营利润 27.2 亿美元,分析师预期 19.6 亿美元; 第三财季自由现金流 27.4 亿美元,分析师预期 16.1 亿美元。
这次财报会除了报告战果,展望未来,马斯克还在一问一答中,透露了非常多关于特斯拉与 AI 的消息。
北美电动汽车王
马斯克对上个季度的业务还是很满意的,首先是在整个欧洲汽车行业呈下降趋势的大背景下,特斯拉的订单量在欧洲创下历史交付量纪录;另外就在财报会的前一天,特斯拉全球第 700 万辆电动车正式下线。
特斯拉的第一个 100 万辆用了 12 年,第七个 100 万辆,仅用了 7 个月。
Model 3 和 Model Y 的销量虽有波动,但在整个新能源汽车的销量排行中,一直都处于「遥遥领先」的第一梯队,让马斯克和特斯拉更高兴的是,即使 Cybertruck 在全球推广受阻,但它在三季度已经成了美国第三大畅销的电动车型,仅次于 Model 3 和 Y。
美国卖得最好的前三名电动车,全是特斯拉。
当然,马斯克在总结上个季度的同时,也不忘了画好之后的大饼,趁着这次表现还不错,顺势说出了自己和特斯拉下个季度的目标。
马斯克希望带着特斯拉,在明年把汽车产量在现有的基础上,再增长 20%-30% 左右。这不管对后方的工厂,还是对一线的销售而言,都是不小的挑战。
对于特斯拉来说,特别是在最大的中国市场,他们除了要闭门造车,更要开眼看同行。不得不承认特斯拉的每一款车,或者说特斯拉这个品牌,就从来没有离开过对比榜单,也没有从卖的最好的车企名单中离开过。
但是竞争愈发激烈的国内市场,到明年的战况只会愈演愈烈,特立独行的特斯拉若想达到 20%-30% 这个目标,要做的准备还有很多。
另外,关于特斯拉的廉价车型,马斯克在这次的财报会上有了更多正面的回应:我们正在开发更便宜的车型。
不过他很快补充说,制造低成本汽车所需的工作量非常高,比起建设一座工厂造出一辆能跑的汽车,从汽车中获得 20% 的成本这件事儿,要比前者困难得多。
虽然困难重重,特斯拉也在这款车型上连续放了好几次鸽子,不过目前整个项目已经在准备阶段,我们有可能会在 2025 年上半年看到这款车。
特斯拉的 AI 大旗,车只是 Play 的一环
特斯拉是一家机器人公司。
这个说法,逐渐从调侃和预言,走向了现实。Q3 提升的除了造车卖车的拿手好戏,还有特斯拉自己的人工智能训练计算能力,第三季度他们的人工智能训练计算能力提高了 75% 以上。
马斯克称,由于目前他你们没有对 AI 训练以及算力的约束,所以,他们将继续扩大对 AI 的训练,提升 AI 的能力,依次来满足 FSD 和 Optimus 的需求。
根据特斯拉的官方数据,到上季度为止,FSD 累计行驶里程超过 20 亿英里。值得一提的是,Optimus 用的 Dojo 超级计算机和 FSD 芯片、摄像头,都和汽车的完全一样,并且还与电动车共用 AI 系统。
从某种意义上来说,拥有了完全 FSD 能力的特斯拉电动车,可以和机器人 Optimus 划等号:都不需要人操控,都需要算力,都有对突发事件的判断能力,当然也都饱受争议。
Optimus 在 Cybercab 的发布会上也一同亮相,和现场观众互动问答,成为专业调酒师,甚至和到场嘉宾划拳,马斯克也在今天的财报会上再次提及了这些细节,他认为 Optimus 已经非常像人类了,而且他非常自信地表示:「我们拥有最先进的 AI 机器人。我们更是唯一一家真正具备量产机器人所有所需要素的公司」。
不过,马斯克还是提到了目前在 AI 面前遇到的一些问题。他认为现实世界 AI 的本质与大模型不同,因为生活中有大量的实时信息,特斯拉的车上有 7-9 个摄像头,因此会每时每刻都在诞生需要处理的新信息。
而难点就在于,汽车需要以非常小的计算能力,来处理这些以千兆为单位产生的字节信息。不过马斯克称,这仍然可以通过大量的训练来尽可能地完善机器对信息的处理能力。
就像人开车一样,重复的动作越多,越熟悉,让一些动作和思考成为吸管和潜意识,大脑就能腾出更多的空间处理其他事情。
而特斯拉也正是通过 XAI 的新业务,对特斯拉电动车、FSD 和人形机器人的核心技术,进行了有利补充。虽然也有人在财报会上对 XAI 和特斯拉的关系提出了质疑,但在马斯克看来,AI 和 XAI 对特斯拉有帮助,并将继续对特斯拉有帮助。
有些车企有顶级的设计团队,有些车企有顶级的营销策略,这都是各家的杀手锏,而对于马斯克来说,拥有一个世界级的 AI 团队,是今后特斯拉和其他业务发展的基石。
明年的特斯拉,在待办里多了几项重要安排:
- 2025 年上半年,实惠经济车型上线;
- 2025 年内,在美国德州加州将推出打车服务;
- 2026 年 Cybercab 量产并投入市场。

Tesla's third-quarter financial results for 2024 were held in the early morning, and Musk, still using his hesitating and thoughtful delivery, outlined his and Tesla's future "grand blueprint".
Overall, Tesla's Q3 performance was decent, at least on paper, providing investors and shareholders with some reassurance:
- Third-quarter revenue was $251.8 billion, an 8% increase year-on-year;
- Total automotive revenue was $200.16 billion, a 2% increase year-on-year;
- Net income (GAAP) was $21.67 billion, a 17% increase year-on-year;
- Total electric vehicle deliveries were 462,890 units, a 6% increase year-on-year.
Furthermore, in many aspects, Tesla competitively exceeded expectations, once again using data to challenge analysts who were not optimistic about or even bearish on Tesla: the third-quarter gross profit margin was 19.8%, surpassing the analyst's expectation of 16.8%; the third-quarter operating profit was $27.2 billion, surpassing the analyst's expectation of $19.6 billion; the third-quarter free cash flow was $27.4 billion, surpassing the analyst's expectation of $16.1 billion.
In addition to reporting results and looking ahead, Musk revealed a lot about Tesla's AI in the Q&A session.
Electric Car King of North America
Musk was quite satisfied with the previous quarter's performance. Tesla broke records in Europe for order volume amidst a declining automotive industry, and the global production of the 7 millionth electric vehicle was officially completed the day before the earnings call.
The first million Tesla vehicles took 12 years, and the seventh million only took 7 months.
Despite fluctuations in Model 3 and Model Y sales, they have always been at the forefront of the sales rankings for new energy vehicles. In the third quarter, the Cybertruck became the third top-selling electric vehicle in the U.S., after the Model 3 and Model Y.
The top three best-selling electric vehicles in the U.S. are all from Tesla.
Musk did not just summarize the previous quarter's results but also painted a rosy picture for the future. He aims to increase vehicle production by 20%-30% on the existing basis next year, which poses a significant challenge for both their factories and sales channels.
For Tesla, especially in the significant Chinese market, in addition to continuing to manufacture vehicles, they must also keep an eye on the competition. Tesla and its brand have always been on various comparison lists and the list of best-selling car companies.
However, the fiercely competitive domestic market will intensify next year, and if Tesla wants to achieve the 20%-30% goal, there is still much preparation to be done.
Regarding Tesla's more affordable models, Musk had more positive responses at the earnings call: "We are developing more affordable models."
However, he quickly added that the work required to produce low-cost cars is very high, and the task of deriving 20% of the cost from a car is much more challenging than building a factory to produce a running car. Despite facing numerous challenges and delays with this model, the entire project is now in the preparation stage, and we may see this model in the first half of 2025.
Tesla's AI Flag, Cars Just Part of the Play
"Tesla is a robotics company."
This statement has gradually transitioned from a joke and a prediction to reality. In addition to the core business of making and selling cars, Tesla has also significantly improved its artificial intelligence training compute capacity, which increased by over 75% in the third quarter.
Musk mentioned that due to the lack of constraints on AI training and computational power, they will continue to expand AI training to enhance AI capabilities, thereby meeting the demands of FSD and Optimus.
As of last quarter, FSD has accumulated over 2 billion miles of driving. Notably, Optimus uses the Dojo supercomputer, FSD chip, cameras that are identical to those in vehicles, and shares the AI system with electric vehicles.
In a sense, a fully FSD-capable Tesla can be equated with the Optimus robot: both do not require human intervention, require computation power, have judgment capabilities on sudden events, and, of course, face controversies.
Optimus also made its appearance at the Cybercab launch event, interacting with the audience, being a professional bartender, and even arm wrestling with guests. Musk reiterated these details at the earnings call, claiming that Optimus resembles a human and confidently stated, "We have the most advanced AI robot."
However, Musk also mentioned some challenges encountered in front of AI. He believes that real-world AI is fundamentally different from large models because there is a vast amount of real-time information in life. Tesla cars have 7-9 cameras and need to process new information every moment in gigabytes.
The difficulty lies in processing these byte-heavy information units with very little computational power in cars. However, Musk stated that this can still be improved through extensive training to enhance the machine's ability to process information.
Similarly to how people drive, the more repeated actions there are, the more familiar they become, turning some actions and thoughts into habits and subconsciously freeing up more space in the brain for other tasks.
Through XAI's new business, Tesla has made beneficial supplements to the core technology of Tesla electric vehicles, FSD, and humanoid robots. Despite some skepticism expressed at the earnings call about the relationship between XAI and Tesla, Musk believes that AI and XAI are helpful to Tesla and will continue to be so.
Some car companies have top design teams, while others have top marketing strategies, all of which are their strengths. For Musk, having a world-class AI team is the cornerstone of Tesla's future and other business developments.
Next year, Tesla has several key initiatives on its agenda:
- A budget-friendly economy model will be launched in the first half of 2025;
- Taxi services will be introduced in Texas and California within 2025;
- Cybercab will be mass-produced and launched in 2026.
"King of Pie Chart" Musk made grand promises in the early hours today. How many of them will come true? How many will be delayed? How many will be fleeting? We will find out next quarter.
